Friday Five 3/8/19

Day after day, I am finding new inspiration and ideas. I wanted to share them with you without overwhelming you with a huge list of goodies all at once. So starting this week, every Friday I will share with you the top five things that have either inspired me or blessed me in some way over the past week.

I’ll get right to it…

1. The Suzy Dress

I am excited about this new pattern release from Athina Kakou. The sheath-like silhouette would be flattering to any body. It comes with two neckline variations– scoop and boatneck, and two sleeve-length variations. My favorite part is the mock wrap feature on the skirt. This pattern is designed for knit fabrics. I’d love to make this in a floral Cotton Lycra. Or, maybe I’ll play with a striped and a floral together? Stay tuned…

2. VLOG: Inside the Hem – First Look at the Butterick Spring Collection

Inside the Hem is a wonderful YouTube channel that I really enjoy watching. This week, she walks us through the Butterick Spring collection. She does fabric and pattern hauls, recent makes and her videos are very insightful and fun to watch. She does this type of video whenever the new patterns are released by the big 4 (Simplicity, McCalls, Butterick, Vogue). What I like to do is grab a cup of coffee, and pull up the collection on my iPad as she walks through the patterns. I screenshot patterns I like and keep a list for when JoAnn’s has their pattern sales (Simplicity is $1.99 at Joann through March 9, by the way).

3. I bought SF101 interfacing on Overstock.com for an unbelievable price!

I bought 10 yards of 20″ Pellon SF101 for under $30. This is a phenomenal price for my favorite interfacing. My next purchase will be EK130 for knits. Before you order online, check their prices as it tends to fluctuate daily. It came today, and it is the same wonderful SF101 that I am used to buying.

4. VLOG: Refashion Series by Kara Metta

This came up on my recommendations from YouTube. Kara runs the blog, “While Camden Sleeps”, and frequently vlogs her creations. This series focuses on the collection of clothes from her grandmother that she is refashioning for herself and wearing to honor her grandmother. I am in the middle of a doing a jeans refashion, and I was very inspired by her videos.

5. Closet Case Patterns released the Jasika blazer pattern.

Closet Case patterns have some of the most well-written instructions I’ve seen. My first pair of jeans was their Ginger Jeans, and they really did set me up for success! This week, they released the much anticipated Jasika blazer. It is a classic, tailored jacket. She is also hosting a fun sew-along called #blazerofglory. I’m planning on jumping in and learning some tailoring techniques!
