Lady Grey Coat

In my years of photographing weddings, no reception song frayed my nerves like “Lady in Red.” Song aside, I love wearing red, so when I thought about a new, crisp Spring coat, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the gorgeous red twill that jumped off the rack at me while going through Hobby Lobby. And those cherries? Heavenly.

I love my Seamwork membership. The instructions are well-written, and seem to fit both my body and aesthetic well. Recently, they have included the Colette Patterns in the monthly credits. That is when I first saw Lady Grey.

The Lady Grey pattern is a versatile, princess-seamed, trench-type coat. Princess seams are always flattering, She would make a beautiful wool coat, but I envisioned her for Spring! The only thing I didn’t love about her was the sleeves. They are short, and wider sleeves. I preferred just a long sleeve.

Since the sleeves are two-piece sleeves, I was in a dilemma as to how to edit them. What I ended up doing was downloading the Colette Anise coat pattern (or you could really use any two-piece long sleeve pattern), and combined them, keeping the armscye of the Lady Grey pattern. It worked beautifully.

Now, I wish it would just get warm enough to wear her in Ohio…
