It’s Friday! Time for my picks my favorite inspiration picks from around the sewing community this week:
1. Joy Bernhardt: Playday Fun – If you have ever watched Joy Bernhardt’s vlog, you know what a genuine, delightful person she is. I stumbled across this video from a few months back of her having a sewing date with a friend. Those ladies are hysterical! Joy, can I come sew on your next fun day?! I DARE YOU NOT TO LAUGH!
2, Creativebug is free through libraries! – My local library is offering free access to the entire Creativebug class lineup! It’s worth checking to see if your library offers it. Here is a list: LIbraries that offer Creativebug
3. Speaking of genuinely nice people, Lisa Comfort from Sew Over It is one of the kindest. For International Womens’ Day, she offered a free pattern through her Instagram. Needless to say, her patterns are amazing, and so many people logged on that the sewing community actually crashed her website. Even in the midst of her own chaos, she went over and above to make sure everyone that was trying that day was able to get a copy. It may seem mean to mention a free pattern offer that is expired, but I just felt like this beautiful lady deserved a shoutout– not only for her generosity on IWD, but for the inspiration she gives every day!
4. Gertie’s Dental Floss Trick – You know how you watch a YouTube video and it just keeps playing related videos? Well, I was in an endless playlist one day while sewing. I was too into my project to go select a new video to watch, so Gertie’s Video on Gathered Skirt- making was playing in the background when I saw this stroke of genius that she shared. To gather a skirt, zigzag over dental floss and pull the gathers on the dental floss! Since the dental floss is coated to glide, it works perfectly! I actually tried this on some costumes with gathered skirts this week– it worked like a charm. Check out the video! (At about 1:18:00). Gathered Skirt Making
5. Pantone’s Color Trend Report for Spring Fashion is out, and I am loving the vibrant, warm colors! How many of these will you sew? Maybe we need a “Color of the Year Challenge”? I’d love to see what everyone would do with Living Coral!
Have a great weekend of happy sewing!
